Desk to Vanity Makeover

Hi There!

The weather is cooling down , and maybe I can finally get to the dresser that has been in my garage all summer....
OK, OK! I know I am still half way with the "chairs from hell" (yes, I said the H. E. Double Hockey sticks word. I say its not a cuss word, its a place...so there..).
Aaany who....I am so sick of those chairs, or intimidated, or whatever, that I just can't get myself to get back to working on them. Hopefully this week.

So, today I want to show you another makeover that I did awhile ago.

This desk was at Goodwill, for $39.99. I needed a vanity for my daughter's bedroom, with lots of drawers, because she's 10, and loves to hold on to crap stuff.
That was more than I wanted to pay, so I waited for half off Saturday and went and got ot for $20.00.
It came with a chair, too.

This is it after the hardware has been taken off.

I primed it with Kilz Spray Primer, and sprayed it with Krylon Ivory.
I then used a black glaze over the whole surface, and wiped it off again.
It showed up all the imperfections which is what I wanted.

The hardware got the same primer, and then some Oil Rubbed Bronze spray.

I like how it turned out, but I already have other plans for it....this was done in July, so at least I was happy with it for three months!

Here's hoping you all have a very blessed and creative week!

Oh, and please make my little heart happy and comment. It makes my day! (no, really, it does. )

  1. Wow, it turned out so nice!!! Quick question: did you sand it at all, then? I've been drooling over some fab pieces at Goodwill lately but don't want to pay over $10 for my very first makeover cuz I'm afraid I'm going to botch it. Ha ha

  3. I REALLY like the black over the white- it looks SO cool! I'll have to search thru your history to find these chairs- what's the deal that's making them give you a hard time? Sidenote- I finally did my first decoupage. I think it turned out okay but at the same time I did a tray like yours but it turned out so bad I ripped all teh decoupage off. I was wondering how did you get your wrinkles out without messing up your paper on the bottom of the tray? & also, when I DO get it right I wanted to tell everyone where I saw it so do I need to ask your permission first & do you have a button I can grab to link back to you? I am sure any followers I may have are already following you but JIC...

Sorry so long. Have a blessed day & I really love your desk/vanity! =0)
